Bundesliga giants turn attention towards Chelsea star after bring priced out of Rudiger switch

Bayern Munich could target Andreas Christensen as the Antonio Rudiger transfer is deemed too expensive

According to Goal (h/t Football.London), Bayern Munich could try their hands to land the services of Andreas Christensen after deeming the transfer of Antonio Rudiger to be too expensive. Uncertainty has surrounded the former defender’s future at Stamford Bridge due to his current contract situation.

Christensen will see his current deal with the Blues expire at the end of the 2021-22 season. He could legally reach a pre-contract agreement with other clubs from this month onwards if he decides to move elsewhere. Barcelona have also shown an interest in him as they eye the free agency to make their move.

Bayern were interested in bringing Rudiger to Germany, but they have turned their attention towards the 25-year-old as an alternative. They could attempt to sign him in the future once the player’s contract at the Bridge runs out. It remains to be seen how the situation would turn out this month, considering that the January transfer window is now open.

Potential concern?

It seems like we are always facing some kind of issue in recent months whether it is an injury crisis, a Covid outbreak, a drop in performance, a controversial interview or the potential departure of our key players. We have not caught a break in this period despite some instances giving us hope.

Just when we thought the German club would not pose a threat, there is a chance of them prising the Dane away from our hands. The extent of the interest is not confirmed, but things could change quickly, considering how we will have little leverage the closer we get to the summer transfer window.

We have tied Thiago Silva down for one more year, and we have to do the same with the Danish international. He is the bridge between the veterans and the youngsters in our squad, and we must make sure that he extends his current deal. That is because he could continue to lead the line when Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta eventually hangs up their boots.

Christensen has proven his worth for Chelsea and remains a reliable option to have at the back. Efforts to curtail his playing time in an effort to force his hand has been met poorly and it remains to be seen if the club have lost their opportunity to tie down the Danish ace.

Rudiger and Azpilicueta will also see their contract expire at the end of this campaign if an extension is not signed before next summer. We have to address these issues as quickly as possible so as not to deal with a centre-back crisis in the future.
