Star Chelsea midfield duo could be on their way out as Blues plot summer exits

Ross Barkley and Jorginho could be on their way out of Chelsea

According to Football.london, Chelsea could see Ross Barkley and Jorginho leave the club this summer.

The Blues brought in Kai Havertz as their fifth major signing of the summer. This took the club’s spending spree to beyond the £200million mark.

With his squad now strong in several positions, Frank Lampard will now look to sell players in the coming weeks. The transfer window will slam shut on October 5.

Having signed Ben Chilwell, the Blues look set to part ways with Emerson Palmieri. He might be joined on his way out by both Jorginho and Barkley.

Jorginho was one of the club’s biggest summer signings in 2018. Brought in by former boss Maurizio Sarri, the 28-year-old has since enjoyed mixed success at the club.

The midfielder’s performances picked up under Frank Lampard but the Italian was conspicuous for his absence post the restart.

He only returned to the lineup following injuries to N’Golo Kante, Billy Gilmour, and Mateo Kovacic. Moreover, while the player’s agent has admitted his client is happy at Chelsea, he might look elsewhere if he ceases to be a first-team player. (h/t Metro)

With Havertz now a Blue, Barkley could be one to make way for the German.

The English midfielder actually enjoyed a good run of form since the restart. He also played a starring role in our FA Cup run that ended in defeat at Wembley.

While the 26-year-old has shown his ability, he has been far too inconsistent to be deemed a reliable performer.

Meanwhile, Chelsea continues to be linked with West Ham United’s Declan Rice. Barkley was deemed to be a player the Blues were willing to offer to get Rice. Whether that is still an option the club is willing to pursue remains to be seen.
