La Liga giants eye Chelsea playmaker as ‘Plan B’ if move for Man City winger fails

Transfer News: Fabrizio Romano claims Barcelona are keeping Chelsea ace Hakim Ziyech as Plan B amidst links

According to transfer news from Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are interested in signing Chelsea ace Hakim Ziyech, but only if they fail to sign Ferran Torres from Manchester City.

Xavi is beginning the rebuild at Barcelona, and he is going to need all the help he gets. After all, getting knocked out in the group stage of the Champions League is not a pretty showing for a club of their stature.

The Nou Camp outfit is, thus, plotting a €50million move for Man City attacker Ferran Torres. However, it is claimed that his price tag is €60million. Talks are still continuing between the two clubs but if they cannot reach an agreement, the Spanish outfit already has a replacement in mind.

The La Liga club is keeping Hakim Ziyech as their Plan B. The Chelsea ace has struggled for game-time this season and has failed to impress when given the chances. Injuries have played their part, but the 5-time European champions may be interested in handing him an escape route.

Ziyech could be free to leave

Barcelona may be weighing up a deal for the Moroccan international but there is little known about the player’s intentions. However, the West London club would be wise to consider their options if he desires to leave Stamford Bridge.

For all the hype he came with, Ziyech has failed to step up to the plate when needed. His performances against Everton and Wolves are a perfect representation of that. In both games, Mason Mount was the one taking the creative initiative.

The 28-year-old looks lacklustre when the supporting cast is not up to the mark and fails to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Then again, it would be smart to let a deal happen in the summer, as offloading an attacker in January is a risky move since Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku, and Callum Hudson-Odoi recently contracted the Covid-19 disease.

Regardless, Barcelona are likely to consider a move for the African international only if they fail in their bid to sign Torres from Man City. For now, the former Ajax ace needs to focus on the game against Brentford in mid-week before travelling to Villa Park on the weekend.

For Chelsea fans, it won’t be a shabby scenario regardless of Ziyech staying or going. It is clear he isn’t one of the first names on our team sheet and it would be a good idea to cut on our losses as soon as we can.
