Transfer News: 25-year-old Chelsea star eyed by Ralf Rangnick at Man United

Christian Falk claims Ralf Rangnick wants Chelsea star Timo Werner to join him at Manchester United

According to the BILD journalist Christian Falk, Ralf Rangnick wants Manchester United to sign Chelsea ace Timo Werner next summer.

The German boss was appointed by the Red Devils recently, following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a week ago. He was unable to manage the team during their clash against the Blues on the weekend, but he is already plotting transfer plans that could directly affect us.

Rangnick is eyeing the prospect of bringing Werner to Old Trafford. He was the one that spotted the striker at Stuttgart and signed him for RB Leipzig.

It is also thought that Thomas Tuchel and Rangnick are close. The Chelsea gaffer played under the German thinker at SV Ulm before the Man United boss suggested he should become a coach. Thus, he has some clear ties to our striker and the manager.

What next for Werner?

Rangnick may have connections to the player, but that doesn’t mean our club should be bound to sell him. The 25-year-old signed for us last summer, and while he has had a terrible record in front of goal, he played a vital part in winning the UCL title last season.

Tuchel is also eyeing to win the Premier League title this term. Hence, squad depth would be essential, and Werner forms a vital part of that. Barring Romelu Lukaku, Kai Havertz and the former Leipzig man are only the two natural options to play through the centre- with Havertz being experimented in that position earlier this season.

Moreover, his performances were improving when he was employed in a striker partnership with Lukaku. He still has a lot to achieve in West London and is part of an important project.

Alternatively, even if the Blues were interested in letting him leave, it sends a wrong message if we let him join our direct rivals, that too in the physical prime of his career. Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic have joined United in the last decade, but we should not let that pattern continue.
