Newcastle United keen to beat Chelsea to promising Ligue 1 talent

Newcastle United closing in on securing the signature of Chelsea target Boubacar Kamara

According to the Sun, Newcastle United are ready to offer £10million to Marseille for the services of Chelsea target Boubacar Kamara in the January transfer window.

The youngster has been a sensational performer at Marseille in the past few months. The French midfielder has already made 20 appearances across all competitions this season. Having come through the academy, he also captained the club earlier in the season.

Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with Kamara in recent times. However, it seems Newcastle United have gained an edge over their Premier League rivals for the youngster’s signature.

Chelsea target Boubacar Kamara has played the deep-lying role for Marseille in this campaign.

Kamara’s contract is set to expire at the season, meaning he is free to move clubs for free in the summer of 2022. He will also become eligible to talk with foreign teams from January, and Newcastle are eying to take advantage of that opportunity. The Toons are already in touch with the French youngster’s agent.

It is believed that Eddie Howe’s team intends to pay as much as £10million to the French team to secure Kamara. Furthermore, Newcastle are eyeing to convince the 22-year-old to agree to personal terms in January.

Chelsea are currently in dire need of a quality midfielder. Thomas Tuchel’s preferred midfield lineup has been hampered due to injuries in recent times. The German manager even played defensive players in midfield to cover up for the losses of vital players. But that wasn’t enough to tackle the situation and we have fallen off the pace in the Premier League title race in recent weeks.

Thomas Tuchel had to use attacking midfielders like Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech in forwarding positions. Failing to fill the midfield void with available players, the former Dortmund manager called up academy players to fill up the spots.

Even though a summer pursuit for Kamara looks more logical for Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel wouldn’t mind if the Blues board is successful in luring the midfielder to Stamford Bridge in January. But Newcastle’s approach would only increase the price of the starlet in January. Staying away from a potential bidding war is not a bad idea given the riches at the Magpies’ disposal.
