Los Blancos prepare “final offensive” in their pursuit of 28-year-old Chelsea superstar

Real Madrid to make a final move to sign Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger

According to the Spanish publication AS [Print Edition] via Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), Real Madrid are plotting to make a final charge to sign Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger in the coming transfer windows. A key player for the Blues, uncertainty has gathered around his situation at Stamford Bridge

Rudiger will see his contract with the Blues expire at the end of the current season. He could legally reach a pre-contract agreement with other clubs from January if he wants to move elsewhere. But it seems that there have been talks with Real even before that period had started.

The German could leave his current club when he becomes a free agent next summer. There are no signs of agreeing to an extension that further validates the possibility of a move. Madrid are “preparing a final offensive” to put the matter to bed from the hands of the West London club and the other interested clubs.

Damning blow

The impact that the Chelsea defender has made on Thomas Tuchel’s squad cannot be underestimated. There have been times when he was crucial even at the other end of the pitch. His contribution to the Blues’ Champions League success and the title charge this season is significant and would leave a large void should he leave.

It is concerning how the board have not found common ground with the German international regarding a new deal. The further this matter gets dragged on, the worse it can impact team morale. The Blues ace’s teammates would be concerned with the possibility of him leaving at the end of the current campaign and h club’s inability to do what it takes to keep him.

That leads to a lack of harmony within the team, which is the last thing we need midway through a season. Moreover, it would be expensive to replace a man of the Blues superstar’s calibre when you take into consideration all the expenses involved. For that reason, it is hard to understand why the club have not yet settled the issue.

Our other centre-backs like Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta are also in the final months of their Chelsea contract, which makes this even more concerning. That is why we must reach an agreement with the German centre-back as soon as possible to help us when they eventually leave. Time will tell what lies in store for us and if he would depart next summer or extend his current deal.
