“Put some respect on his name” – Some fans react as Chelsea defeat Watford 2-1 away from home

Some fans react on Twitter as Chelsea beat Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road

According to the club’s official Twitter account, Chelsea picked up all three points against Watford on Wednesday night.

The Blues were entering the game with several injury concerns. The starting line-up was one that even Thomas Tuchel would have been unsure about. Five minutes into the game and our midfield was non-existent with Watford were targeting Marcos Alonso as the weak spot.

However, there was a suspension of play after a fan was hospitalized just 10 minutes into the game. The match resumed after nearly half an hour, but the complexion of the tie remained the same. The Hornets were finding the empty spaces, and Chelsea looked confused all over the pitch.

Fortunate 3 points?

Regardless, a little bit of quality at the half-hour mark saw Marcos Alonso bring down a ball beautifully before passing it to Kai Havertz in the box. The German squared it to Mason Mount, who was never going to miss it from 6 yards out. It looked like the Blues finally had a foothold on the game.

But the men in yellow equalized just before the half-time whistle as Emmanuel Dennis found himself 1v1 against Antonio Rudiger on the right-hand side, and the striker put the ball between the defender’s legs to put Watford level. Tuchel made the obvious change of bringing off Saul Niguez but brought on Thiago Silva as Trevoh Chalobah moved into midfield.

The young Englishman had to come off 15 minutes into the second half after suffering an injury. He was swiftly replaced by Hakim Ziyech. The Moroccan would prove to be the difference-maker. Another well-worked move saw Mount open on the left wing, and his cross found Ziyech in a yard of space to smash the ball into the roof of the net.

The playmaker scored his first goal of the season just when we needed it the most. The Blues managed the game from thereon in, but it was a close shave nonetheless. It was one of our most dismal performances of the season but we maintained our position at the top of the table.

Let us now see how some fans reacted on Twitter to our hard-fought victory on the night.
