“It won’t stop”- Tuchel slams unfair PL for forcing Chelsea to play despite Covid outbreak

Thomas Tuchel hits out at Premier League for unfair decisions that forced Covid-struck Chelsea to play games

According to BBC Sports, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has launched a massive attack on the Premier League decisions that obliged Chelsea to play in a difficult situation amidst rising Covid-19 cases.

Chelsea have been going through a challenging phase because of injuries and Covid related reasons. Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Andreas Christensen are currently unavailable due to injury.

Even though N’Golo Kante returned from his injury recently, he was forced off during last night’s game while Thiago Silva also picked up a hamstring issue against Aston Villa. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Romelu Lukaku just returned from self-isolation and will only gradually attain full match fitness.

The North London side requested the Premier League to postpone their match against Wolves after multiple players returned positive tests for Coronavirus. But the organisers decided to reject the request and pushed Chelsea to play the game without some of our key players. Thomas Tuchel’s side eventually went on to drop points that day in a 0-0 draw.

Amid such a situation, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has launched an attack on the Premier League. The German manager revealed that the recent decisions of the organisers has put Chelsea on the back foot.

“It’s not fair, We’ve all been in bed for 10 days, and we play against teams who prepare with games postponed and who prepare with one week for these matches.”

Tuchel fires shots

The former Dortmund manager suggested that the organisers pushed them to play even when the team was struggling with Coronavirus.

“They make us play all the time, even if we have Covid. We have new injuries, and it won’t stop. People at the green table, in offices, make these decisions.”

Thomas Tuchel’s side is trying to cope with the situation at this moment. But the issues have affected their on-field performance. We only have two wins in their last 5 Premier League matches. The injury to N’Golo Kanté further suggests that the Blues will be short handed in the midfield once again.

We have equalled Liverpool’s points tally by playing one more game. If Thomas Tuchel intends to become a title contender again, he has to find solutions, and at this time, it seems as if external help can help the Blues. Thus, all eyes will be on Marina Granovskaia during the winter transfer window.

It remains to be seen if there are any incoming and outgoings during the winter, but it would be a smart call if we dip into the market. If the past few weeks have taught us anything, it’s that we can never have too much quality in depth. Our mind races back to the draw against Zenit where we saw Reece James in central midfield and Saul Niguez at left wing-back.

It would be mighty helpful for us if such a situation, where we can’t field our players in their preferred positions, doesn’t arise in the PL because the English top-flight is unforgiving. We have a strong squad when everyone is available but that seems like an unattainable goal right now.
