Chelsea hit with three more positive cases before Everton clash

Chelsea suffer three more Covid-19 positive cases ahead of Everton clash

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Chelsea were hit with three more positive cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday ahead of their clash against Everton on Thursday night.

The Omicron virus has taken over the country, most of all, the Premier League. However, the Blues only had Mateo Kovacic suffering from the fatal disease, as opposed to other clubs that have quite the list.

Unfortunately, a test conducted on Wednesday showed three more Chelsea players to have tested positive. Another test was carried out on Thursday, but thankfully there were no more positive cases.

It is understood that that the game against Everton is set to go ahead despite the recent complications to the home side. But this has come at a really bad time for Thomas Tuchel, who already has several injury concerns. N’Golo Kante and Trevoh Chalobah are set to return to the matchday squad, but Kovacic and Ben Chilwell remain out with their respective issues.

Bound to happen?

The Premier League is playing with fire, and it is clearer than ever now. The West London outfit were one of the few clubs that had managed to avoid a massive Covid-19 hit. But, they too are in the thick of things now.

Moreover, Chelsea are the last club that would want to postpone their fixtures. The Blues have already had to adjust their games in February due to the FIFA Club World Cup. Thus, any more postponed games and the European champions would have to undergo a congested fixture schedule in the coming months.

Thankfully, the game against Everton is likely to go ahead. Thomas Tuchel and co need to cover the gap in the table created by Man City, following their 7-0 victory against Leeds United on Tuesday. But the safety of everybody connected to the club needs to be prioritized.
