“Fight”- 30-year-old Chelsea star rallies his teammates to overcome the recent slump in form

Marcos Alonso rallies Chelsea teammates to use their hectic fixture list to overcome the poor run of form

Chelsea had a great start to the current campaign but ran into a slump recently ahead of the hectic fixtures, which prompted Marcos Alonso to rally his teammates to face them head-on. His team will face Leeds United later today in the Premier League in an attempt to recapture their form.

The poor run has seen the Blues drop to third in the league and lose the top spot to Juventus in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League. This drop in performance levels comes just as we enter into the busy festive season.

Speaking in an interview with the club’s media (h/t Chelsea official website), Alonso has demanded that the squad regroup and rediscover their previous form. He remains adamant that they need to be more consistent to win the league at the end of the season.

“There has been a lot of good stuff from the team lately so we just have to regroup and go again stronger to get back to winning ways. At this point we have to fight for everything. We will try until the end for every competition and as long as we have the energy, we will try to be up for everything.”

While Chelsea have the benefit of a good start, it does not give them the license to let their guard down. The season is still very much in its infancy and there is a long way to go. The quicker we can settle into a winning rhythm, the easier it will be for us to secure silverware.

“We’ve had a good start but the Premier League is about regularity and we need to be there consistently for 38 games. Now there is another important phase with all the fixtures around Christmas and in January so it’s a very important time where you can determine where you want to be at the end of the season.”

An experienced head!

The 30-year-old took the role of a leader and asked the team to improve collectively and ensure stability throughout the season. Being a Premier League veteran, Alonso knows what it takes to get through the stacked matches and has asked the players to do the same.

Three points is a must against Leeds to boost our morale and build momentum for the upcoming games. Even though we are in the third position in the PL, we remain within touching distance of the summit. With return fixtures still to come, there are enough opportunities for us to leapfrog Manchester City and Liverpool.

With just two points separating us from the top of the table, we could still become the leaders if we continued to show consistency moving forward. The season is long, and we should put ourselves in a great spot to take advantage of the slip-ups from Man City and the Reds.
