Chelsea amongst clubs to hold ‘advantage’ over Juventus in the race to sign Serie A striker

Transfer News: Chelsea amongst clubs interested in signing Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic

As per transfer news on 90min.com (h/t football.london), Chelsea are amongst numerous clubs interested in signing Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina.

The 21-year-old has been in red hot form since the start of last season and is growing in confidence. He bagged 21 goals in 37 Serie A games and has added to his goal tally by scoring 12 times this season.

Understandably, several clubs are interested in securing his signature, including Juventus and Chelsea. However, it is understood that Premier League clubs shall hold an advantage over the Old Lady due to the poor relationship between the Turin outfit and Fiorentina.

Moreover, the Serbian international is apparently set to become available for €80million in January. His quality can justify that price tag, and he would be useful for a number of top clubs as a mid-season addition.

Do Chelsea need him?

Thomas Tuchel brought in Romelu Lukaku for a club-record deal in the summer. We lacked a proper centre-forward last season that could guarantee goals week in, week out. The Belgian delivered in the opening weeks as he scored 4 goals in his first four games.

However, he later failed to find the back of the net in seven consecutive games until he was injured against Malmo. He could be nearing a return from injury soon and is sure to be amongst the goals again. His performances at Inter Milan were testament that he rarely has rough patches, and even when he does, he contributes in other ways.

In fact, Timo Werner has also looked comfortable alongside him. Thus, unless the Blues see themselves losing either of the two strikers in the near future, signing Vlahovic would not really make sense, especially for a big price tag.

Chelsea have also placed a buy-back clause on Tammy Abraham, indicating that the academy graduate could lead the club’s frontline in the future if he proves to be a success at AS Roma. But with Werner signed last year and Lukaku joining our ranks just this season, signing a high-profile striker like Vlahovic seems like a luxury, especially with a potential centre-back crisis brewing for next summer.
