Team News: Chelsea quartet miss training ahead of Malmo clash

Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic miss Chelsea training ahead of Malmo clash

According to the club’s official site, Chelsea stars players Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount were all absent from training as Chelsea began their final practice session ahead of their Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Malmo.

It was already expected that Chelsea would be without Lukaku, Werner and Kovacic as all of them were already suffering from injuries prior to this training session.

The former two have featured for the Blues since their 4-0 Champions League win over Malmo on October 20 due to ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.

Kovacic, on the other hand, suffered a hamstring injury ahead of the Newcastle match on Saturday. However, Chelsea rose to the challenge and won the match 3-0 to go three points clear at the top of the table.

Mount, on the other hand, fell ill on the eve of Saturday’s game and is now expected to also miss out on Tuesday’s Champions League tie as well.

However, there was good news on the injury front as well as Christian Pulisic continued his rehabilitation from injury. He was present in the training session along with academy attacking midfielder Harvey Vale.

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel admitted last week that Pulisic is recovering well and could be in the fray for the game against Burnley. Whether the German will throw on the winger against Malmo remains to be seen.

“Christian is looking forward to the Burnley match. If everything goes right, he should be in the squad then and ready to play.”

The Blues will be buoyed by their 3-0 Premier League triumph over Newcastle United last weekend and will be aiming to continue their winning run in the Champions League.
