“That is football”- Tuchel accuses ‘lucky’ Burnley of stealing a point against Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel labels Burnley luck after draw

Talking after the match (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel labelled Burnley ‘lucky’ as they stole a point after a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Chelsea, who are top of the tree in the Premier League right now, will surely be disappointed as it was an opportunity lost to consolidate their position on the table. If Liverpool win their match against West Ham United on Sunday evening that will mean that Chelsea will be just one point clear on the top.

Chelsea wasted a number of chances as they had 25 attempts on the goal but failed to make most of it. And in the end Burnley substitute Matej Vydra was lucky enough to cancel out Kai Havertz‘s opening goal.

Speaking after the game(h/t Daily Mail), Tuchel responded to a question as to whether Burnley were lucky to get the draw.

“They (Burnley) were very lucky. That is football. We were lucky at Brentford. That is why everyone loves the game.”

“Sometimes like today, somebody steals some points. We were lucky at Brentford so they were lucky today to get their result. It happens sometimes.”

Havertz, playing as a false No.9 with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner still sidelined with injury, headed Chelsea ahead just past the half-hour mark. The Blues had a stack of early chances but for an impressive goalkeeping display by Nick Pope, they would have been out of sight by the break.

Likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ross Barkley, Thiago Silva and Havertz himself were guilty of extending the west Londoners lead. They were made to pay for their incompetence in front of goal, when Vydra equalised for the visitors eleven minutes from time.
