Injury News: Southgate issues fresh fitness update on Chelsea midfielder ahead of San Marino tie

Gareth Southgate issues fresh injury update on Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount

According to the Evening Standard, England manager Gareth Southgate has ruled out Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount from Monday’s clash against San Marino.

Mason Mount suffered an infection to his teeth more than a week ago. He was with the Chelsea camp then and received medical treatments. The blues manager Thomas Tuchel described the issue as a ‘tricky one’ because of the development in the infection.

The German manager also suggested a wisdom tooth caused severe pain and prevented the player from featuring a few matches for the West London team before the international break.

Despite the injury and the possibility to miss out on several matches for the England squad, the 22-years-old player was selected by Gareth Southgate.

The Chelsea player underwent dental surgery this week following the increase in the infection. The England international already missed yesterday’s game against Albania where his team won with an emphatic 5-0 victory.

After the game, Gareth Southgate was asked about the possibility of his coming back to the team for Monday’s game against San Marino. Southgate stated that he is yet to recover from the injury and any chance seems doubtful.

“Luke and Mason are very unlikely to join us. It looks like we will run out of time with those two. But I will make changes definitely (against San Marino).”

After winning against Albania, the Three Lions only needs one point against the world’s lowest-ranked side San Marino to qualify for the World Cup 2022.
