Spanish heavyweights to raid Chelsea for German international next January

FC Barcelona are eyeing up a move for Chelsea star Timo Werner in January

According to The Sun, FC Barcelona are interested in getting the services of Chelsea star Timo Werner in the January transfer window. They are said to be looking up targets to boost their squad following the arrival of Xavi Hernandez.

The German international joined the Blues from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020 for a fee of £47.6m. Since the move, he has scored 14 goals and provided 16 assists in 62 appearances across all competitions. However, he has not met the expectations in front of the goal so far.

The 25-year-old has had a mixed time at Stamford Bridge due to his struggles in terms of goals. However, he has fared well in setting up teammates or making off the ball runs to pull defenders, the most famous being the run that helped Kai Havertz score the winner in the Champions League final against Manchester City.

Barcelona are said to be interested in the German international to replace Sergio Aguero, who joined the club earlier this summer. The Argentine suffered breathing problems during a game and is out for several months due to recovery.

Barca’s finances are in a mess currently, and it is unlikely that they would pay a decent amount for Werner. The German’s struggles are well known, and the Spanish club may hope to get him at a discounted price.

The forward is currently out due to an injury and has also attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund. Following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku, he has become a dispensable option for the West London club.

Thomas Tuchel has asked for the services of the German striker this season and even in high profile matches like against Manchester City. Since we are also battling on multiple fronts for silverware, it is unlikely that we would sell him and reduce our squad depth.
