“Too much pain”- 23-year-old Blues forward opens up on his struggle with injuries

Chelsea star Christian Pulisic bares it all regarding his struggle against injuries

According to the club’s official website, Chelsea attacker, Christian Pulisic has opened up on his struggle with injuries. Then American international has endured a difficult time since joining the Blues and received just his second start of the season earlier this week against Juventus.

The 23-year-old has missed a plethora of games this season due to various issues like testing positive for Covid-19 coronavirus and the ankle injury he suffered during the international break in September. As things stand, he is yet to reach the fitness level that can see Thomas Tuchel put his faith in him.

Pulisic’s ability as a player is unquestionable. But the fact that he spends a disproportionate time on the sidelines could prevent him from reaching his potential. Many young careers have been cruelly nipped in the bud thanks to injuries. Hopefully, our number ten will fare better.

“I’m feeling really good. My body’s feeling much better and I’m getting even better with more time on the pitch and starting to gain fitness. It was quite a tough injury to deal with, to be honest. It definitely felt like a long couple of months.”

The 23-year-old mentioned he is happy with his body and mind, and he is close to reaching his peak fitness level. He also admits that the time spent on the sidelines was difficult and it was a proper struggle to overcome it. Pulisic appears happy with the way he has gone about it and feels he is nearing full fitness.

“I would say, fitness wise, I’m close to where I want to be. I think I’ve played it quite smart in the way that I’ve come back, slowly, not necessarily too much too soon. It’s been really good so I’m happy with the way I feel right now.”

Tuchel and co should also take the initiative to ensure that Pulisic is not overstrained until he is at the peak of his fitness. The last thing we need is for him to be thrust into action before he is absolutely ready.

The Blues forward has played just 280 minutes this season but has scored two goals in that short period. One of them came against Leicester City, where he came on as a substitute. His return would be a boost to Tuchel, who has had to deal with injuries to Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in recent weeks.

Having weathered an injury crisis of sorts, Tuchel is close to welcoming back both Werner and Lukaku on a regular basis. With Pulisic also now available, the Blues are set to negotiate a busy December schedule.

Hopefully, Pulisic has used up his quota of setbacks this season and will enjoy much success going forward.
