“Setting the bar”- 22-year-old Chelsea fringe star could be loaned out next January

Federico Pastorello admits Malang Sarr could leave Chelsea on loan next January

Speaking to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t football.london], Federico Pastorello has revealed that his client, Malang Sarr, could leave Chelsea on a loan transfer in January over lack of game-time.

The 22-year-old signed for the Stamford Bridge outfit on a free transfer from OGC Nice last summer but was immediately loaned out to Portuguese club Porto.

The defender made 19 appearances for the senior side last season and featured in their Champions League run to the quarter-final, where they eventually lost out to winners, Chelsea.

Sarr returned to Cobham this summer and featured in the London outfit’s pre-season. Even though Thomas Tuchel possesses the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Trevoh Chalobah, Thiago Silva, and Andreas Christensen in the backline, the Frenchman has managed 3 appearances, including helping the side pick up a crucial victory against Brentford last month.

However, the player’s agent, Federico Pastorello, has now hinted that his client could leave in January on a loan move. He told The Telegraph (h/t football.london):

“I see in Malang the same attitude, the same focus, the same talent as Azpi when he joined Chelsea. That’s setting the bar so high, and of course, Malang needs to improve on the tactical side because Azpi is a genius, he’s a professor. But, like I was with Azpi, I’m 100% sure that he will end up being a player for Chelsea.”

At 22, the defender could become a future star for the West London club and nail down a starting spot. Rudiger, Azpilicueta, and Christensen will be out of contract next summer, and the same shall apply for Silva unless the club extends his deal.

Regardless, Tuchel might not sanction a loan move for the U-21 French international in January, especially if they are still competing in five competitions, including the Club World Cup.
