Boost for Chelsea as key first-team star nears return from injury

Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku has hinted at his return to full fitness ahead of Manchester United clash

According to Football.London, Romelu Lukaku was seen ‘running freely’ with Chelsea teammates after last night’s impressive win over Juventus.

The Belgian ace suffered from an ankle injury in October and since has been sidelined. Thomas gave him a slim chance that he could feature in yesterday’s game. But, in the end, the German manager decided not to risk one of the squad’s key players.

The Blues team performed the task emphatically without their 28-year-old star striker. The West London team dominated the game against Juventus and achieved an outstanding 4-0 victory to go to the top of Group H in the Champions League.

Even though the former inter Milan striker wasn’t involved in the game, his free movement on the pitch could hint at a complete recovery. The 28-year-old player was seen ‘running freely’ with a pack of Chelsea substitutes yesterday.

Romelu Lukaku rejuvenated his career in Italy. He was on a horrendous goal-scoring run in the last two seasons with Inter Milan in the Seria A. By bagging 30 goals and ten assists in 44 games across all competitions, he helped the Nerazzurri claim coveted league title last season. It is evident that he has become one of the most lethal strikers in the world in the past few seasons.

Lukaku’s ridiculous performances convinced Chelsea to splash a club record of £97.5million on him. After paying such an amount on a player, any management would want him to become the star in the team. Indeed, he has shown a positive approach this season.

He scored three goals in seven Premier League games to start his second spell with the Blues. He hasn’t become a monster at Chelsea, but his presence on the pitch has surely benefitted Thomas Tuchel’s team. His physicality and game awareness has proven to be difficult to anticipate for rival defenders.

Lukaku’s recovery could be a sign of relief for Thomas Tuchel, who was obliged to play Kai Havertz in the centre forward position in the absence of two key strikers. The West London team is set to face Manchester United on Sunday, and there would be at least three training sessions before the clash. It’d be interesting to see if the Belgian returns in full fitness to haunt his former team.
