Report: Chelsea keen on raiding Premier League rival for 20-year-old defender

Transfer News: Chelsea are keeping a keen eye on Leicester City star Wesley Fofana

According to Foot Mercato (h/t The Sun), Chelsea are keen on securing the services of Leicester City ace Wesley Fofana. The Blues as facing a potential centre-back crisis that could unfold at Stamford Bridge at the end of the 2021-22 season.

The Blues are in danger of losing the heart of their defence as four centre-backs are out of contracts in 2022. Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, and Thiago Silva could all leave as free agents come next summer.

The English club have enjoyed much success following Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as the manager following the sacking of Frank Lampard. They have won the Champions League last season and are currently on top of the Premier League table. The solid defence has played a role in helping the club reach this stage.

The Champions League holders have only conceded four goals from 11 matches in the league this season, which shows the solidity of the backline. They have shortlisted Fofana as a potential replacement should any of their key players leave ahead of next season.

Tuchel’s team will face heavy competition from Manchester United and Real Madrid, who are both keeping tabs on the 20-year-old. He is currently out due to a Fibula fracture suffered during a pre-season friendly against Villarreal.
