25-year-old Chelsea attacker reveals he will leave the club in the summer of 2022

Chelsea starlet Charly Musonda reveals that he will become a free agent in the summer of 2022

Chelsea starlet Charly Musonda has confirmed on his Instagram account (h/t Scottish Sun) that he is set to leave Stamford Bridge as a free agent in the summer of 2022.

The 25-year-old joined the Blues in 2012 as one of the highly-rated youngsters in the game. The Londoners had to beat off competition from Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City to secure his signature.

A very promising player, he made his Chelsea debut in the 2017 FA Community Shield before going on to score on his full debut against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup that September.

Musonda was amongst the most talented young players when he joined Chelsea.

Despite showing promise, Musonda has failed to make a name for himself at the Bridge. He has made just seven first-team appearances for the Blues and has largely spent time out on loan.

Spells at Real Betis and Celtic saw him experience contrasting fortunes. A third loan spell, this time to Vitesse Arnhem in 2018/19 proves catastrophic. The player suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury that has impacted his playing time big time.

Now 25, it would appear his chances of making it at Chelsea have ended up in smoke. His contract is up next summer and he looks set to walk as a free agent.

Tuchel has a wealth of options to call upon.

The injury also risks the player’s chances of reaching his full potential. This further limits his chances at the Bridge where there is heavy competition for places.

Musonda is undoubtedly a talented player who has been dealt a difficult hand both on and off the field. While it is unfortunate that he cannot make a name for himself at Chelsea, there is still a career in football beyond the Blues.

The 25-year-old Belgian was arguably just at the wrong club at the wrong time. Wherever he ends up, we wish him nothing but the best.
