“It is bad luck”- Tuchel provides worrying injury update on Chelsea’s star attacking duo after Malmo win

Injury Latest: Thomas Tuchel reveals Chelsea duo Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner could be out for ‘some days’

Speaking after the game (h/t The Sun), Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner could be a doubt for Chelsea against Norwich due to injury.

The Blues produced a professional performance against Swedish outfit Malmo on Wednesday night as they knocked in four goals without a response. However, the energy from the get-go itself was impressive as both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner were hounding the opposition down.

But to Thomas Tuchel’s dismay, he lost both his strikers to injury in the first half. Lukaku had to be brought off after he was pulled down by a rough challenge in the box, which earned the London club a penalty. Werner followed his strike compatriot’s walk down the tunnel after he felt his hamstring during a counter-attack.

Tuchel has now provided an update on the injuries of his star centre-forwards. The German told reporters after the game (h/t The Sun):

“We have a twist of the ankle for Romelu and hamstring for Timo. They will be some days out, I guess. We only had Christian Pulisic, we miss everybody, but we have to find excuses. We have no excuses.

“Romelu twisted his ankle with the foul in the box, Timo has a hamstring injury. It will take a while for both of them. They will be out for some matches. I don’t regret it. It was the moment to give him [Lukaku] confidence. Things like this can happen, it is bad luck.”

After the duo went off, Havertz scored his 2nd goal of this campaign while Jorginho tucked away his 2nd penalty on the day as Chelsea maintained their 2nd place in their UCL group.

However, given that the Belgian and the German could be out for a few days, Tuchel might have to rethink his game-plan for the game against Norwich on Saturday as the Stamford Bridge outfit look to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League table.
