“Need not worry”: Chelsea boss assures 26-year-old midfield star that his chances will come

Thomas Tuchel has assured Chelsea ace Saul Niguez that his chances will come despite slow start

Speaking in the post-match press conference (h/t Metro), Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has assured summer signing Saul Niguez that he does not need to worry about his chances despite starting out slowly.

Since making the move on deadline day, the 26-year-old’s time at the club has not gone to plan. The midfielder was given the chance to make his debut against Aston Villa after the international break, but some silly mistakes saw him subbed at half-time itself.

He got a chance to prove himself again against Villa in the EFL Cup, and that was a far more composed performance. Although he did not change the complexion of the game, he avoided mistakes.

While N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, and Mateo Kovacic have dominated the midfield line, Ruben Loftus-Cheek was also fielded ahead of the Spaniard against Southampton on the weekend.

But Tuchel has now assured the midfielder that he need not worry and that his chances will come. The German boss told reporters in the post-match press conference (h/t Metro):

‘He (Saul) does not need to worry. Just work hard and adapt, and the chances will come. There will always be tactical choices and choices of current form and of connections on the field.

‘Particularly about Saul, he was very, very close to start today. In the end, I decided against him because I thought to put him in another high pressing match, an opponent pressing so high in the centre of the pitch, would it be fair to say “okay, now prove it and let’s see if your adaption has gone further” and I hesitated a little bit.’
