Loan Watch: PL boss address talks of Chelsea wanting to recall 20-year-old loanee due to lack of minutes

Norwich coach Daniel Farke talks about the future of Billy Gilmour amidst rumours of a premature recall from Chelsea

Speaking in the presser (h/t Football.London), Norwich City manager Daniel Farke gives his thoughts on the situation of Billy Gilmour amidst speculation surrounding the loanee that Chelsea might recall him later this season.

The Blues and the Canaries had agreed to a season-long loan deal for Gilmour earlier this season. It was expected that the loan would help the midfielder get consistent game time but that has not been the case recently.

Farke dismissed the rumours surrounding a potential recall by saying that that is not the case at all. He further commented that the relationship between the club, the 20-year-old and Thomas Tuchel’s side is strong.

“Listen, we are absolutely happy we have him and he is absolutely happy to be here. The conversations we have with Chelsea are also positive. Billy is fully committed to be here. We are all happy.”

The rumours of a recall began when the German manager told reporters that they are not here to develop players for other clubs. This was following their hefty loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

Thomas Tuchel’s side would be hoping that the situation gets better as quickly as possible. If this continues to persist, it would hamper the development of the youngster.

It is a peculiar situation when the Scottish international performed well for Chelsea and continues to perform for his country. It could be that the Canaries are not liking what they see or simply have better options than Gilmour right now.

But if he was to only warm the bench at Carrow Road, it’s better that he does it Stamford Bridge alongside players of higher calibre and quality.
