“Dream big”: Chelsea star opens up on being nominated for the Ballon d’Or

Chelsea star Jorginho opens up on Ballon d’Or nomination

According to the Metro, Chelsea star Jorginho has opened up on being nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or this year.

The Italian international has taken a stick for a number of poor performances. However, he has impressed under Thomas Tuchel and is now a key member of the Blues squad.

Jorginho was part of the Chelsea side that won the UEFA Champions League last season. He followed it up with a win at the Euro 2020 with Italy. Both tournaments saw him play starring roles for club and country.

The midfielder admits that being nominated is nothing short of a dream come true. Something unfathomable just a year ago, his performances on the field have seen him prove his doubters otherwise.

“Who doesn’t dream of that? Dreaming small and dreaming big are the same thing, so it’s better to dream big..”

The 30-year-old’s case has been appraised by Roberto Mancini who has built his Italian midfield around the player. It remains to be seen if he will break the stranglehold on the award held by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the last 15 years.

“Jorginho should, in my opinion, win the Ballon d’Or. He has won everything and deserves it a lot.”

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has also thrown his hat into the ring for Jorginho to win the award. While both Mancini and Tuchel could be accused of being biased, anyone who has seen the midfielder play in recent months would disagree.

“He deserves it, he is one of those who deserve to win the Ballon d’Or.”

Whether or not he will go on to win the prize award remains to be seen.
