Transfer News: Chelsea need to fork out £51m to land Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni
According to the Spanish publication Marca (h/t Football.london), Chelsea will need to fork out £51million if they want to land AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni in the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old is among the best young players in Europe and is steadily doing his reputation justice. He recently started alongside Paul Pogba in France’s 2-1 win over Spain in the UEFA Nations League final.
Replacing N’Golo Kante for Les Bleus is no mean task. The Monaco star however rose to the occasion and put in a performance that belied his years.
Given that Kante is also a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s side, it is understandable why Chelsea are interested in the 21-year-old. With the veteran now in his thirties, the Blues will need to find a replacement sooner or later.
More so, Mateo Kovacic has his pitfalls while Jorginho’s lack of pace is a known issue. Saul Niguez too has failed to impress and it remains to be seen if he will convince the blub to make his deal permanent.
Competition for Tchouameni is difficult given that Manchester United and Real Madrid are also interested. It is Italian giants Juventus who are however currently leading the race to land him.
Tchouameni is however a cheaper alternative to Declan Rice. The former Chelsea protege has made it big at West ham United and is on the club’s radar with regards to a return.
However, his £100m asking price is proving to be a major issue. Tchouameni will cost around half of this and could be a better fit to the Blues system. Whether it will eventually come to pass remains to be seen.
