Player News: Talks for Chelsea star’s contract stalls

Talks betwen Chelsea and Antonio Rudiger have gone cold since one month

According to Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports on Twitter, Chelsea and Antonio Rudiger haven’t spoken about a new contract since last month. Despite being a regular starter and a key figure in Thomas Tuchel’s plan, the German international has not yet committed to the Blues.

The German centre-back is out of contract in the summer and is free to sign a pre-agreement with foreign clubs as soon as the January transfer market opens. Any chance the Blues have of keeping him do not sound promising.

Speaking on the issue, the journalist tweeted that while Chelsea still have hope, the player is keen to assess all his options before reaching a decision.

Of late, Spanish giants Real Madrid have shown interest in the defender and are looking to reach an agreement in January with Rudiger’s camp. The Bernabeu club similarly agreed on a similar pre-contract agreement with David Alaba in January of this year.

The west Londoners have been trying to reach an agreement with the defender but nothing has been agreed. Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested. The defender does not appear to be short of options.

The Guardian last month, Rudiger has revealed that he is happy at Stamford Bridge. He appears to be committed to the Blues cause but whether it is enough to see him extend his stay at the Bridge remains to be seen.

“The most important thing is that I feel happy here. I think if people look at it, they can see I’m happy. About the contract situation, I talk with the club. This is for nobody’s ears. It was how I said it would be after the Euros – there would be talks.”

Chelsea boss Tuchel would not want to lose his prized asset because he has been a revelation at the club in the last year and a half. Rudiger under Tuchel has been a breath of fresh air in comparison to his time under former coach Frank Lampard.
