Injury News: Thomas Tuchel explains reason behind absence of Chelsea star Edouard Mendy vs Tottenham Hotspur
Speaking before the match against Tottenham Hotspur (h/t The Metro), Thomas Tuchel provided an injury update on Chelsea ace Edouard Mendy, confirming the Senegalese had a ‘huge’ hit.
The Blues were yet again rampant against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday as the likes of Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante, and Antonio Rudiger all got on to the score sheet. Although the first half did see the Blues as the second-best team on the pitch, Tuchel changed things at half-time, and the West London club took all three points at home.
However, one player that was missing from the team on Sunday was Edouard Mendy, who featured in every single game for the club before the weekend. The Senegalese had picked up an injury, something Tuchel confirmed just before the game.
The German boss said (h/t The Metro):
‘Edou got a huge hit, we tried everything in the last days, but he never felt fully comfortable in diving.’
Although Kepa Arrizabalaga deputised on the weekend, the London club will surely be hoping that all is well with their 29-year-old goalkeeper and the injury is not too serious.
Mendy has been a crucial part of the club since he arrived at the club at the start of last season. Although he was developing a knack of keeping clean sheets under Frank Lampard, he notched up a level after Thomas Tuchel shored up the defence in the second half of the season.

His performances in the Champions League also led to him being named Goalkeeper of the season in the competition, an award he was presented with during the club’s Champions League tie with Zenit less than a week ago.
With the Blues set to play Manchester City and Juventus in the space of 10 days, Tuchel will be hoping to have his first-choice keeper back soon.
