Speaking to The Metro.co.uk via Bonus Finder, Shaun Wright Philipps has told Callum Hudson-Odoi to leave Chelsea if he wishes to play regularly.
The 20-year-old, who broke out on the scene back in 2019, was eyed by Bayern Munich during the time but has remained at Stamford Bridge. Although not the most prominent role under Frank Lampard, it seemed like things were going to change under Tuchel.
Although the German coach used Hudson Odoi in his first game in charge of the club, game-time has been hard to come by since then for the young Englishman. The youngster has been competing for the right-wing back slot alongside Reece James but has only started 1 Premier League game this season.
Former Premier League forward Shaun Wright Philipps has now urged the 20-year-old to leave the club in order to get more game-time. He told The Metro.co.uk via Bonus Finder:
‘I think whether he decides to realise his full potential or stick to being a fringe player is totally down to him. If he wants to be in and out of the team and play a role that he is doing now, then you stay at Chelsea.
‘But, if you want to play regular football and show everyone why Bayern Munich were thinking about buying him, then he’s going to have to walk away and prove to people how good he is.’
Hudson-Odoi was also linked with a deadline-day move to Borussia Dortmund, but Thomas Tuchel had blocked the move as he considered it almost ‘impossible’ to let the youngster leave the club.
However, with the Blues featuring in nearly five competitions this season, including the Club World Cup, the Englishman could receive some much-needed game-time. The best thing, however, for the 20-year-old now will be to put his head down and earn a place in the starting lineup by training hard.
