Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea are title contenders this season
According to a piece done by Rio Ferdinand on the YouTube Channel ‘FIVE’ (h/t The Metro), Chelsea are title contenders this season and would pose a hard challenge to the other top clubs around.
The Blues, who lifted the Champions League title in Porto last season, have only gone from strength to strength this season. Thomas Tuchel signed former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku for a club-record deal, while the West London club also made a quality addition to their midfield line by securing the services of Saul Niguez on a loan deal on deadline day.
Moreover, the Stamford Bridge outfit’s form at the start of the season has been incredible as they have picked up 10 points out of a possible 12 and have only conceded one goal during this period.
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand explained how the Blues could be a problem in the title race this season. He told the FIVE YouTube channel (h/t The Metro):
‘Chelsea are a concern if you’re trying to win the league.’
Ferdinand also went on to praise Thomas Tuchel for turning Chelsea into a great defensive side while the United legend also lauded Lukaku by making him a contender for the Golden Boot.
‘One of the biggest factors they are stingy, they don’t concede goals now. They’ve got the best clean sheet record since Tuchel took over in the whole league, they’ve got best defensive record in terms of goals conceded. He’s making them a machine, they look like a team that can play ugly’.
The Belgian attacker already has three goals in the league for the Blues, as he netted on his second Chelsea debut against Arsenal and found the net twice against Aston Villa.
‘If you’re talking about the golden boot at the end of this year he’s (Lukaku) in the conversation with Ronaldo and Kane all day long…and Salah!’
