Hansi Flick holds talks with Thomas Tuchel over the best use of Kai Havertz

According to BILD (h/t Express), Germany head coach Hansi Flick has revealed that Thomas Tuchel has been consulted over the best use of Kai Havertz. The Chelsea manager has looked like he has got an idea of what his best position in the side is and that could help his national team manager as well.

Kai Havertz might be relieved a bit that he is no longer the club’s record signing after Chelsea signed Romelu Lukaku. He had some issues through most of last season living up to the price tag and an early bout of COVID did little to ease his troubles. More than anything, it looked as if Havertz’s best position was not clear.

He was tried as a no. 8, no. 10 and even out wide. However, it was Tuchel’s usage of him as a false nine that really sparked a change in form. He would go on to start the Champions League final and score the winning goal. All in all, he looked much more effective from that position and his output was better.

Now, new Germany manager Hansi Flick wants to get the best out of Havertz after taking charge. In his first game, he opted to use the 22-year-old as a playmaker or a no. 10. Then he revealed that he has held talks with Tuchel regarding Havertz.

“I do believe that Kai can play in the centre. I exchanged ideas with Thomas Tuchel. I can well imagine that he can also play in the centre.”

At this point, Havertz looks like he is still finding his feet around the addition of Lukaku. The Belgian’s presence means that Havertz might not feature in the false-nine role. So far, he has been used as a wide forward and it has been productive as well. It will be interesting to see how he does over the season.
