Chelsea ready to open talks with 22-year-old Englishman over new contract

Chelsea ready to open talks with Mason Mount over new contract

According to 90min (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea are ready to open talks with Mason Mount over a new contract. His current wage of £75,000-per-week will be doubled to £150,000-per-week as the Blues are ready to reward their star man for his contributions to the side.

Chelsea’s academy has long been a hub of brimming talent but only a select few have successfully made their way into the side and established themselves. Mason Mount can proudly say that he is one of the best examples of that. Mount did not have it easy though, as he had to go on a loan spell to Derby County and it was his impressive performances on the pitch that pushed him into the side.

The 22-year-old midfielder was a huge part of the side that finished in the top four in the last two years. His crowning moment came last season when he won the Champions League with his boyhood club. It was he who provided the assist for Havertz’s goal in the final that won the game. The academy graduate has evolved into an important player for both club and country.

Regardless, Chelsea now want to reward him for his impact and importance to the team. His last contract was signed two years ago and had a wage of £75,000-per-week. Now, the Blues are ready to open talks over an extension and a lucrative pay rise that will see him earn double the current wages.
