Chelsea had eyed a transfer deal for PSG star Marquinhos this summer
According to Get Football News France (h/t The Sun), Chelsea were ready to offer £86million for PSG defender Marquinhos this summer, but a move failed to materialize.
The Blues added handsomely in their frontline and midfield this summer by getting in the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Saul Niguez through the door, with the latter being signed on deadline day. However, the Stamford Bridge outfit were also keen on strengthening their defence and were targeting Paris Saint Germain defender Marquinhos.
Ex-PSG boss Thomas Tuchel worked extensively with the Brazilian during his tenure at the club, while the West London club also signed the player’s former defensive partner Thiago Silva from the French outfit last summer.
While a move was being eyed, the Ligue 1 side had different ideas. PSG, who signed the likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Gini Wijnaldum, and Lionel Messi had no intentions of letting their captain leave this summer.
Marquinhos has been a vital cog in the PSG machine for several years and was a crucial part of the side that reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2020. Thus, neither the French club nor the player were interested in orchestrating a move, according to Get Football News France (h/t The Sun).
The 27-year-old was, however, not the only centre-back the London outfit were targeting this summer. Jules Kounde was also a prospect the club were after this summer but did not manage to get it over the line despite agreeing on personal terms earlier.

Tuchel will be aware that Antonio Rudiger is in the final year of his contract and could leave on a free transfer at the end of this season. While he could yet sign a new deal, bringing in reinforcements is a clever idea.
Thiago Silva is also out of contract next season, and the Blues should start considering adding another centre-back to their star-studded squad soon.
