Chelsea ace Jorginho makes his emotions clear after winning UEFA Player of the Year award and credits Thomas Tuchel
Speaking after lifting the UEFA Player of the Year award (h/t football.london), Jorginho has expressed his pleasure of winning the accolade and has also praised Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel in the process.
The 29-year-old, who joined the club in the summer of 2018, lifted his first silverware for the club in the same season as he won the UEFA Europa League under Maurizio Sarri.
Although he remained a constant in Frank Lampard’s first season at the club, the Italian fell down the pecking order in the first half of last season. However, the 29-year-old made his way back as a starter into the first-team squad after Thomas Tuchel arrived at the club in January.
Since then, Jorginho has gone on to play a vital part in the club’s Champions League and UEFA Super Cup triumph in the last four months, courtesy of which he was announced as the UEFA Player of the Year. Jorginho expressed his emotions regarding the award later, saying (h/t football.london)
“The only thing I can say is that I’m proud. Everything I do is to make my family and my friends proud of me, so I’m really, really happy and I think I need to say thank you to everyone who was involved somehow helping me to achieve this because just me, that wouldn’t be possible.
The Italian also gave Tuchel a lot of credit for the club’s success in the past six months.
“He (Tuchel) works hard, he wants the best from us, so he tries to give his best as well to help everyone because he knows what we can give, and that’s what he demands.”
