28-year-old Chelsea defensive star ‘close’ to signing new contract amidst links with Bundesliga giants

Chelsea ‘close’ to agreeing contract with Antonio Rudiger amidst Bayern Munich contact

According to BILD (h/t The Metro), Chelsea ace Antonio Rudiger could end up signing a new contract at the West London club despite Bayern Munich contact.

The 28-year-old has had an uncertain future all summer since he has entered into the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge. Although there was no certainty regarding the centre-back’s ambitions to sign a new deal at the club, the Blues are now apparently close to getting the defender putting pen to paper soon.

The German was approached by Bayern Munich recently, after the Bundesliga outfit contacted the player’s half-brother and agent, Sahr Sensesie over a potential move next summer, according to BILD (h/t The Metro). However, it is said that Rudiger wants no such move and is now ‘close’ to agreeing on a new deal.

The Stamford Bridge outfit are ready to provide the centre-back with improvised wages on his current £130,000-per-week contract. The 28-year-old has become a crucial figure at the club ever since Thomas Tuchel took the reins at the club.

In the last 6 months, the German has displayed incredible defensive performances under his fellow countryman and has also helped the club win their 2nd ever UEFA Champions League trophy.

The defender has not lost any pace this season and has been a rock at the back for the Blues this year. However, although Rudiger is said to be ‘close’ to signing his new contract, there is still interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain, and Tottenham.

Thus, it would bode well for the Blues if they can officially agree on an extension sooner rather than later. Alongside the 28-year-old, the West London club are also confident of completing an extension on the contract of Andreas Christensen.
