Chelsea ace Timo Werner could have joined Liverpool or Manchester United in 2019

According to some startling revelations from Der Spiegel (h/t Mirror), Chelsea ace Timo Werner could have ended up at Manchester United or Liverpool in 2019. Leaked documents and chats showed that Liverpool were in talks with the German forward while another bit revealed Werner actually was keen on a move to United, while Chelsea were among the alternatives.

Timo Werner was tearing up the Bundesliga during his time with RB Leipzig. His talent had attracted the attention of a number of clubs but he would eventually go on to move to Chelsea in 2020. It was not for the lack of trying though. The 25-year-old worked hard to stay on the side but his finishing let him down. Now, as Werner steps into his second season at Chelsea, a lot of revelations have come out. Back in 2019, it was actually Liverpool who first held talks with the striker and even made an offer. Werner is said to have had secret meetings with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Personal terms were also presented worth €12m-a-year but Liverpool eventually went for Diogo Jota. Another interesting leak pointed out that Werner actually preferred a move to Manchester United who made a better offer than Liverpool. Chelsea were only seen as an alternative at that point. However, Werner would remain at Leipzig for that season.
