Team News: Tuchel provides injury update on 23-year-old Chelsea forward ahead of Aston Villa clash

Thomas Tuchel has provided an update on the injury of Chelsea ace Christian Pulisic

Speaking in an interview (h/t football.london), Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel believes that Christian Pulisic might not feature for the Carabao Cup game against Aston Villa in mid-week as the American is yet to recover from his injury.

The American recently celebrated his 23rd birthday, but that is the only positive thing for the youngster so far this season. Injuries have led to the USMNT international featuring in only a single Premier League game for the club this season.

Pulisic featured for the club in the UEFA Super Cup final and also scored one of the decisive kicks in the penalty shoot-out and then went on to score against Crystal Palace in the season opener. However, the winger then suffered from Covid-19, resulting in a minimum isolation period of 10 days, ruling him out of the Arsenal and Liverpool game.

Although he recovered soon and also featured for his national team in the international break, but suffered an ankle injury, keeping him out of the Aston Villa and Tottenham ties.

Tuchel has now also confirmed that the 23-year-old may not be available for the club’s Carabao Cup tie against Aston Villa either in mid-week. The German boss said:

“I think for Christian (Pulisic), the game against Aston Villa [in the Carabao Cup in midweek] is maybe a bit too close. I hope that I’m wrong but this is my impression.”

“He’s not in training so far, but let’s see tomorrow. Maybe if he had a good progression today, maybe it’s possible. It would be super nice for us to have him, but for me, it’s a bit doubtful.”

Fans of the West London club would be hoping for a swift recovery for the American, especially since they are set to face the likes of Man City and Juventus in the next 10 days. In his absence, we can see the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Hakim Ziyech get more gametime than usual.
