“Humble enough”- Veteran Chelsea star reveals Tuchel’s half-time reaction after poor half vs Tottenham

Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta reveals half time team talk from Thomas Tuchel

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Metro), Cesar Azpilicueta went on to reveal what Thomas Tuchel spoke at halftime to inspire Chelsea to a win over Tottenham. The Blues captain revealed that their manager was not happy with the performance in the first half.

Two London derbies and Chelsea had no problems in either of them. While Arsenal was a straightforward win, Chelsea had to work hard for the win against Spurs on the weekend. Credit to Spurs for keeping Chelsea at bay for the first 45 minutes but the away side turned up the heat after the break.

Thiago Silva opened the scoring for Chelsea.

Thiago Silva rose the highest to open the scoring. N’Golo Kante had some luck as his shot deflected off Eric Dier and ricocheted off the post and in the goal. Antonio Rudiger added a third late in the game to complete the win. The win was Chelsea’s fourth of the season and they are still unbeaten.

Nonetheless, given the first half Chelsea had, it was a marked improvement in the second. Captain Azpilicueta revealed what Thomas Tuchel spoke about during the halftime.

‘He [Tuchel] was not happy, we were not happy with our performance. Even though we were able to arrive around the box we did not shoot on target, they created a few chances where we could have conceded. Even in duels we were not as good as we usually are. We were sometimes too open and it was something that we had to address.’

Tuchel was apparently not happy with Chelsea in the first half.

He went on to add how they had to produce a stronger second half.

‘Playing like this, we couldn’t expect to win the game. The best thing we could do was to arrive at half-time at 0-0. The reaction was good, everyone is humble enough to accept this and go again and give a strong second half.’
