“Already 1-0 up”- Former PL striker believes 28-year-old Chelsea star can outscore Cristiano Ronaldo

Darren Bent believes Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku can outscore Cristiano Ronaldo this season

According to an interview done with talkSPORT (h/t The Metro) former Premier League striker Darren Bent believes that Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku can outscore Cristiano Ronaldo in the league this season.

Chelsea, who signed the Belgian from Inter Milan for a club-record deal of £97.5million this summer, are already reaping the rewards of their investment.

Lukaku made his debut against Arsenal a couple of weeks ago, and the 28-year-old scored within 15 minutes. Although he failed to add to the scoresheet against Liverpool a week later, Darren Bent believes the forward can score many goals this year, perhaps even more than Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Manchester United legend, who completed a sensational return from Juventus on deadline day, is touted to lead the line for the Red Devils this season, and he could score a ton of goals.

Ronaldo and Lukaku did play against each other in the Serie A last year as the Portuguese outscored the Belgian by 5 goals. However, Bent feels that will not be the case this season. He told talkSPORT (h/t The Metro)

“I think when you look at Chelsea, and you look at the goals they get, I think a lot of them will go through Lukaku.”

“You look at Lukaku, Chelsea brought him for a purpose in terms of he has to play. That was the missing piece of the jigsaw for me, and he’s already 1-0 up [in goals vs Ronaldo], he’s already got a head start.”

While Ronaldo could make his ‘second debut’ for United against Newcastle United this weekend, there is a doubt whether Lukaku will feature for the Blues as he has had to undergo a scan on his thigh.

Thus, the race for the Premier League Golden Boot is certainly going to be interesting this year, and the Stamford Bridge outfit will be hoping Lukaku outscores everybody to it, not just Ronaldo.
