Glen Johnson questions why Chelsea sold Kurt Zouma
According to Metro, Glen Johnson questioned why Chelsea ended up selling Kurt Zouma to West Ham United. The former Chelsea and West Ham defender felt that there was something going on between Zouma and Thomas Tuchel for the Blues to sell the Frenchman to the Hammers.
Chelsea had a stellar defensive record under Thomas Tuchel last season but like all top sides, they wanted to refresh their options. Hence, they decided to go after Jules Kounde while trying to offload Kurt Zouma. The problem was that only half of that transpired as Chelsea missed out on Kounde but Zouma has a new home in London.
Zouma fell to the periphery once Thomas Tuchel took over and he played in a handful of games over the latter half of last season. He had slipped behind the likes of Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. He would eventually seal a deal to West Ham for £25million.
The departure was definitely questionable and former Chelsea and West Ham defender, Glen Johnson felt that there was no reason to sell him. He added that there might have been something personal between Tuchel and Zouma that led to the exit (h/t Metro).
“From a Chelsea perspective, I’m surprised they’ve sold him. There clearly must be something between him and Thomas Tuchel because otherwise they wouldn’t have let him go, even though I don’t know that personally. He’s a very good player and for him to turn up at West Ham is ideal for the Hammers.”

It’s not really clear as to whether there were any issues brewing between the player and the manager. Chelsea will be hoping that this sale does not come back to bite them. Zouma is a talented defender and he will no doubt make the Hammers backline better.
