Chelsea starlet Trevoh Chalobah reveals Thomas Tuchel message on impressive start
According to the Metro, Chelsea starlet Trevoh Chalobah was surprised that Thomas Tuchel wanted him to stay this season. The youngster was not sent on another loan spell after impressing in the first few games of the season.
There’s a very good chance that Trevoh Chalobah can be the find of the season for Chelsea. It has been an impressive August for the academy ace after he was handed his debut for the senior side and in the Premier League as well. He went on to score his first goal as well in the season opener against Crystal Palace.
However, there was probably some doubt on keeping the player after he spent the last three seasons on loan at Ipswich, Huddersfield and Lorient. Nonetheless, given that the window is now closed and there were no efforts to offload him, meaning that he could be set to play some part over the season.
Chalobah was surprised on being retained
He was also helped by the fact that Chelsea sold Kurt Zouma. Nonetheless, the youngster also admitted to being surprised that Thomas Tuchel wanted to keep him for this season.
“I spoke to the manager between the Palace and Arsenal games and he told me he wanted me to stay, so I moved over to the first-team building that week. Before that I was changing over at the Academy, but now I’ve fully moved over. It was a nice feeling when the manager told me. He spoke to me after training and told me how well I’d done, that I’d taken my chance in pre-season and in the games.
“He said he thinks I can be a good asset to the team and learn from the other players and support them. Even until the day he told me I didn’t really believe it would happen. Even after the Super Cup I thought he’d probably want me to go on loan. After the Palace game it was a bit half-and-half, but until he pulled me into the office and gave me the news I couldn’t really believe it.”

It will not be easy though as Chalobah is still below the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen in the pecking order. He will have to keep up the good performances in the games he gets and hope that he will be a regular starter down the line.
