According to transfer news from Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are preparing to make an official bid for Jules Kounde imminently. Personal terms have been no issue and they have been agreed upon for weeks. The only hold up on Chelsea’s end is due to Kurt Zouma moving to West Ham.
From what fans saw last season, Thomas Tuchel pretty much put the defence into shape as the best of teams found it hard to breach the side. The likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva all stepped up well. However, Azpilicueta and Silva are not getting any younger and will need replacing sooner rather than later.
Hence, Chelsea are already looking to the future with Jules Kounde. The Sevilla defender has made a name for himself in La Liga and is a tough-tackling presence at the back. He was also a part of the side that won the Europa League in 2020. Within a year, he was lining up for the French national team as well.
Chelsea have been after Kounde through most of the summer and now things are getting serious. The Blues are now fully prepared to send an official bid while personal terms have not been an issue. It is only the exit of Kurt Zouma that is holding up Chelsea as they could land €30m from the sale.
At just 22, Kounde has shown tremendous ability and potential. His future looks bright and Chelsea will be hoping to get him within the time that remains in the transfer window. A signing not only for the future but also for the present.
