According to transfer news from Ok Diario (h/t The Sun), Chelsea could end up offering Timo Werner in a swap deal for Saul Niguez. With so much being spent on Romelu Lukaku, chances are that any potential deal for Saul will be a player exchange.
Chelsea have been concise in the transfer market this season. They needed a goalscorer, they went ahead and got one of the best in the business. With no other significant issues in the side, the Blues haven’t really pushed for the other signings. Nonetheless, with the window to close within a week, Chelsea are trying to get some last-minute business done.
The name they are looking to bring in is Saul Niguez of Atletico Madrid. Saul has become somewhat of a peripheral figure at the club and could now look to exit. However, he is still likely to be an expensive signing as he has five more years on his deal.
Chelsea, having blown a significant amount on Lukaku, could look to other workarounds. One of them is to offer a player such as Timo Werner in exchange. The German has yet to find his groove at the club and could be allowed to move in a way to help expedite a deal for Saul. Atleti manager Diogo Simeone is said to be a fan of Werner as well.
Both clubs share a cordial relationship, with a host of players such as Diego Costa, Alvaro Morata and Thibaut Courtois switching between them. This could help a complicated swap deal to take place with ease should all parties agree.
