Transfer News: Chelsea suffer setback in Jules Kounde pursuit
According to transfer news from Estadio Deportivo (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea have received a bit of a setback in their pursuit of Jules Kounde. Sevilla president Jose Castro went on to reveal that there have been no offers so far for the player and time is running out.
Chelsea are apparently looking at a defensive rejig this season. They would seemingly appreciate a new defender suited to Thomas Tuchel’s back three system which also means they are looking to offload Kurt Zouma. West Ham are close to wrapping up the deal for £25m. It leaves Chelsea with the task of getting a deal done for Kounde in time.
The Sevilla starlet could be the man for the job if the Blues manage to sign him before deadline day this summer. It was earlier suggested that Chelsea are indeed very close to getting a deal done for Kounde and he would become a Chelsea player ahead of the deadline on Tuesday.
However, the reality looks a bit bleak. Sevilla president Jose Castro provided an update on the situation regarding Kounde and it’s not good news for Chelsea.
“At the moment Kounde is a Sevilla player. What we have done this year is to reinforce, we’ve signed six footballers. We want to have a powerful team. We always study the offers that may come. But the days are running out, for now there is nothing”.

About four days are left until the window closes and these statements make for grim reading. Either Chelsea are keeping things under wraps or the fact is that there is a realistic chance that they miss out on Kounde this summer. It will indeed be a blow after following through most of this transfer window.
