Chelsea were priced out of Erling Haaland deal due to agent demands
According to BILD (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea were priced out of a deal for Erling Haaland earlier in the summer. His agent, Mino Raiola was demanding £820,000-a-week as wages for Haaland. He was also asking for an agent fee worth £34million and several other things. The deal would have stood at an astronomical £275million outlay for Chelsea which they passed up.
In a short time at Dortmund, Erling Haaland has put himself on the radar of almost every top club in Europe. It’s not entirely without reason. He has scored goals at a brisk rate that one associates with seasoned players. Last season saw him score 41 goals in 41 games adding 12 more assists to that tally.
Chelsea’s goalscoring issues last term meant that they were after Haaland. However, any hopes they had of signing him were quickly quashed. Firstly, his agent was looking for £820,000-a-week in wages for the 21-year-old. Secondly, he demanded an agent fee of £34million. Lastly, there were other miscellaneous costs that would have taken the total spend to £275million.
It was a good thing Chelsea walked away from that as they managed to get a former player of theirs for £97.5million. Romelu Lukaku returned to the club on a record deal and has already hit the ground running. It was a memorable goal as well against a rival side like Arsenal.

Haaland may be a younger option. But the fact is that he would have been too expensive even for a club of Chelsea’s stature. The Blues can be happy that they still managed to get a top-notch striker in with Lukaku.
