According to Calciomercato (h/t Express), Tottenham are set to hijack a deal for Chelsea target Ilaix Moriba. It was looking as if Chelsea were frontrunners for the Barcelona starlet but Spurs could swoop in late for him and win his signature.
La Masia has never failed to churn out serious talent. Even before the days of Lionel Messi, the academy had produced star after star that had gone onto represent the Blaugrana. Ilaix Moriba was the latest in that line and last season he broke into the side with some solid performances in the latter half.
However, the teenager and Barcelona are not eye-to-eye right now over his wage demands. With Barcelona struggling financially, the contract dispute has waged on. Amidst all that, several clubs such as Chelsea were hoping to take advantage of the whole situation and it was even claimed that the Blues are leading the race to get him.
However, it could be our rivals Tottenham who could swoop in right at the last minute to hijack this deal. Apparently, Barcelona are in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Spurs to get a deal done for Moriba. Barcelona are said to be asking for an offer of £17million which is unclear if Spurs will meet.
It’s still not a done deal but if Chelsea have any interest in getting him, they will be taking notice. Moriba is a fine youngster to have in the side and even though Chelsea can boast of star names, they will hardly want him heading off to a rival like Spurs.
