Report: Chelsea could get Champions League boost in pursuit of 21-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder

Transfer News: Chelsea can benefit in Aurelien Tchouameni race if AS Monaco don’t qualify for UCL

According to a report by Eurosport (h/t Football.london), AS Monaco could be forced into selling Chelsea transfer target, Aurelien Tchouameni, if they fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

The loss in earnings would be significant if the French side don’t make UCL. And that could result in them having to sell some of their major assets, including the 21-year-old midfielder.

With regards to that, the situation does not look good for them currently. The Ligue 1 side lost 1-0 to Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of their UCL qualification round match.

They now have a mountain to climb in the away leg considering the daunting task of playing at the Metalist stadium in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Football.london states that Chelsea have opened talks with Monaco regarding Tchouameni.

Tchouameni eyed by Chelsea

If Niko Kovac’s men fail to overturn the first-leg scoreline in the coming week, the Blues could find it comparatively easier to land the youngster. Not to mention, the reigning UCL champions would also offer Champions League football next season.

The West Londoners, however, could face competition from other clubs, which is not a surprise given Tchouameni’s abilities and potential. Juventus and Manchester United are also believed to be sharing an interest in the player.

Chelsea are understood to be keen on landing a midfielder before the summer transfer window slams shut. The 21-year-old Frenchman, in that regard, could be the signing they need.

More Chelsea News:

N’Golo Kante and Jorginho can’t play forever and the club can use a young player who can take over the mantle in the near future while also offering solid backup to the current crop of midfielders this season. Tchouameni, if he does arrive at Stamford Bridge, can be that man.
