Report: Chelsea were ‘scared off’ from a deal for £77m-rated Bundesliga winger

Revealed: Chelsea passed up the chance to sign Kingsley Coman

According to BILD (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea passed up the chance to sign Kingsley Coman this summer. The Blues were keen on Coman and even wanted to offer Callum Hudson-Odoi in a swap deal. However, Bayern Munich wanted £77m for him which seemed to have put Chelsea off.

Chelsea have had a much quieter window compared to the last season. Of course, it was to be expected with the squad in much better shape than last season. Only positions that really needed upgrading were bolstered with new arrivals. Romelu Lukaku’s arrival was the only big signing of the summer- at least until now.

However, it’s not that Chelsea did not show interest in other star names. One name Chelsea were after was Kingsley Coman of Bayern Munich. A serial winner with almost every club that he has played, his contract situation made him a decent player to go after to add to the forward ranks.

It was not meant to be though. Chelsea were hoping that a straight swap could have been done ad they were prepared to offer Hudson-Odoi. Bayern, on the other hand, are believed to be demanding a full cash amount of £77m, which is no small amount to pay in the transfer market.

Perhaps that is a good thing as Chelsea already have a plethora of wingers at their disposal and adding another name can only cause problems. With the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Hudson-Odoi already in the side, there is no need for a new winger in the side at this point.
