“London as next step”: Romano gives update on 28-year-old superstar’s Chelsea transfer

Transfer News: Romelu Lukaku set for London after completing formalities in Monaco

The Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea transfer saga is nearing completion as London awaits the striker’s arrival. Fans are eager to have him announced officially but a deal as big as this can understandably take some time.

However, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update regarding the move that will make Chelsea fans optimistic about seeing an official announcement soon.

The Italian transfer expert tweeted to confirm that Lukaku has completed formalities with his agent in Monaco. And now, the next step is London and an imminent announcement stating that the 28-year-old is now a Chelsea player.

“Romelu Lukaku has just signed his representation contract extension with his agent in Monaco – now planning for London as next step to be unveiled as new Chelsea player. #CFC …again, there’s no doubt or issue. Lukaku to Chelsea is a done deal.”

Lukaku headed to London

This comes after Chelsea agreed a gigantic £97.5million club-record fee with Inter Milan for the Belgian international. That trumps the £20million fee they paid to Anderlecht in 2011 to sign him as an 18-year-old.

Timo Werner is the only realistic option as a No. 9 for Thomas Tuchel right now, with Kai Havertz also capable of doubling up as a false nine. Olivier Giroud has already left the club for AC Milan, and Tammy Abraham could soon follow suit.

There is no doubt that the former Manchester United and Everton man, Lukaku, will be Tuchel’s main man up front when he arrives. He has proven his abilities ever since he left Chelsea in 2014 and is now one of the top strikers in Europe.
