According to information from Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea star Jorginho is will win the UEFA Player of the Year award. The Italian was up there with his Chelsea mate N’Golo Kante and Manchester City ace Kevin De Bruyne. The leak suggests that Jorginho will scoop the precious award ahead of the duo tomorrow during the Champions League draw.
Jorginho has perhaps had the best-ever year of his career. After all, not a lot of players can boast of winning the Champions League, Euros and Super Cup in a season. He has wrapped up the troika of trophies from UEFA and that made him a genuine contender for some of the individual awards as well.
It was duly that Jorhinho was nominated for the UEFA Player of the Year award for his exploits. Jorginho’s Chelsea teammate N’Golo Kante was also nominated for the award. Finally, Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne was also on the list and deservingly so for his contributions to his club.
However, it would seem that it is indeed Jorginho who will be taking home the prestigious award after being the only player from those three to lift all three UEFA trophies. Leaks in the Italian media via sources at UEFA suggest that Jorginho will win the award tomorrow when the group stage of the Champions League is announced.
No one can say that the Italian does not deserve it. He has been a central presence for both club and country and contributed in good measure always. It remains to be seen if the leaks from the report do prove to be true.
