Transfer News: Chelsea are working to offload Davide Zappacosta and Emerson with Serie A clubs interested
As per reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in talks to offload both Davide Zappacosta and Emerson Palmieri, with several clubs interested in a deal.
Talks are said to be progressing with Olympique Lyonnais for Emerson. The 27-year-old left-back, who represented Italy at the 2020 UEFA Euros, made just two league appearances last season.
Serie A side Napoli are another team in the race to sign him, but it seems Lyon are in the lead as of now. The Blues are also on the lookout to finally offload Zappacosta and are in negotiations with Fiorentina. (h/t Fabrizio Romano)
The 29-year-old Italian right-back was on loan at Genoa during the last campaign. With Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta finding favour under Thomas Tuchel, Zappacosta will find it hard to start games for Chelsea.
Zappacosta on his way out?
And according to Romano, Atalanta also exist as a plan B for Zappacosta, who signed for the Blues under Antonio Conte in 2017 from Torino. The journo’s full tweet reads:
“Chelsea are still working to sell Emerson Palmieri. OL are progressing in talks with Chelsea but Napoli hope Emerson to wait for their proposal in the next days. #CFC Chelsea are also in negotiation for Zappacosta to Fiorentina [with Lirola to join OM] or Atalanta as plan B.”
The Blues have done a fair bit of selling during this window, with Marc Guehi, Fikayo Tomori, Olivier Giroud, Tammy Abraham, Victor Moses, and Lewis Bate among several players to depart the West London-side permanently.

But perhaps Zappacosta and Emerson are the two players they could have done with selling a bit earlier considering the duo has not been in the club’s starting XI picture for several years now. Hopefully, Chelsea can recoup some more money during the summer by offloading the duo.
